Stopping Unsafe Relationships Together
Education Advocacy & Support Service
#wearesurt
Our social purpose and vision is to prevent and stop abuse within relationships and to support recovery and raise hope and aspirations. We will focus upon the needs of children and young people aged 11-24, living in South Tyneside who are experiencing or have been affected by intimate partner abuse, child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, honour based abuse and stalking and harassment.
To enable children and young people to be safe, happy and resilient we will educate them to recognise unsafe and unhealthy relationships, assist them to exit abusive relationships safely and to support their recovery. We will also offer support and education to their parents/carers and communities to strengthen and develop safer environments.
Our Core Values
SURT social purpose and vision are underpinned by our core values, which are:

SURT Offer
We will have conversations with children and their supporters to understand the risks and experience of relationship abuse. These conversations will inform SURT interventions and safety planning with the aim of preventing and to stop children from experiencing harm.
We will help children to recognise unsafe and unhealthy relationships through delivery of accredited and/or tailored 1-1 or group-work education programmes.
Together, with children and their support networks we will assist children to exit abusive relationships safely and provide a support service which will help their recovery.
Participation opportunities will be available to children, young people, parent and carers who have shown an interest in becoming a STEERING SUPPORTER.
This role will ensure that the voices of service users are captured and at the fore front of all that we do.
We will work flexibly including evening and weekends when needed delivering relationship intervention, support and education.
Our SURT offer is not time limited. Children and young people will receive a service until they feel safer and happier. The intensity of contact will be based upon individual need and be responsive to risk. Where children and young people are moving into adulthood, they will be appropriately supported to access adult services where required as part of a safe transition.

Together We Support
SURT’s Together We Support strategy is underpinned by our aim to prevent and stop relationship abuse. Our ambitious approach focuses upon bringing communities together, making a difference together, accomplishing together, working together and celebrating together. We recognise our ‘community’ as the young people who we support, their parents/carers, local residents, statutory and third sector organisations, local businesses and funders.
SURT have already been on a journey establishing many local and national connections to improve the safety, wellbeing and aspirations of the people we support. If joining SURT’s Together We Support network is something you would like to be part of please get in touch.
